A free chromatic tuner that runs in the browser and listens through the microphone. Nothing is recorded and no sound leaves the device. The large reading names the note it hears and the needle under it shows the error in cents: inside five cents it turns green and reads In tune, further out it tells you plainly to tighten or loosen. Choose an instrument to tune string by string instead — guitar in standard, open G, open D or DADGAD, violin, ukulele, tenor banjo in CGDA or GDAE, five-string banjo in open G, double C or modal G — or set every string's note yourself.
Questions
Does it need an account, an app or an internet connection to listen?
None of them. Press Start, allow the browser to use the microphone, and the pitch detection happens on this device. Press Stop when you have finished to release the microphone again.
Can it tune a whistle, a flute or an accordion?
Chromatic mode is the default and needs no setting up: it names whatever note it hears and measures against the nearest one, which is what a wind or free-reed instrument wants. Play one note at a time and let it ring; a plucked note reads best just after the attack has died away.
Which tunings are built in?
Guitar in standard, open G, open D and DADGAD; violin standard and an open scordatura; ukulele standard, low G and an open tuning; tenor banjo in CGDA, GDAE and open; five-string banjo in open G, double C, modal G and open. Tap the string you are working on and the tuner holds that target instead of jumping to a neighbouring note halfway through.
What if my cross-tuning is not in the list?
Press Edit, set each string's note yourself and press Apply; any instrument can take a custom or open tuning this way, and Cancel leaves the stored tuning untouched. A cross-tuning you come back to often belongs in your musician profile, where it is saved with the instrument.
Does it say B flat or A sharp?
Whichever your tablature preference says, so the app spells a note the same way everywhere. Change it in Configuration and the tuner follows; signed out, it reads flats.
